Course Description

This course introduces the cultural, social, and political relevance of popular culture as pertained to people’s everyday life, economic activities, identities, and civic engagement. The course aims to facilitate dialogues about popular culture and practices in Asia. For decades, popular culture developments in Asia have shaped regionalization and globalization. Analytical concepts from media, social and cultural research could enrich the perspectives of students and further invite them to engage with Asia beyond the definition of nationalism and geopolitics.
